The Tide® Teaches New Believers in India That God ‘Knows Them by Name’

The simplest lessons we can share with new and potential believers is that God knows each of them by name, and that they can count on His truth daily. Thus, one of the verses local Tide pastors around the world teach is Isaiah 43:1, where the Lord says, “I have called you by name; you are mine.”

We have worked to reach lost souls for Christ worldwide for the past 70 years. And for nearly four decades, The Tide has had a presence in India, where gospel programming in heart languages tells about the saving grace and boundless love of Jesus Christ.

In addition, those who want to learn more about Christ can write The Tide to request information and literature. In turn, they receive details about events where they can find out more about Jesus and dive deeper into the Bible.

However, many of these new believers in India face significant hardships when they turn from their old ways and begin to follow Jesus. According to a recent report in The Christian Post, new Christians in India endure immense pressure from radicals who beat them for refusing to worship Hindu gods. Open Doors USA has been sharing stories of those persecuted for their faith in India, where converting people to Christianity is illegal in five states.

“It takes courage to seek the truth in a society where truth does not prevail,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “It may cost a new believer their family, their job, or even their life. These people are seeking the truth—God’s truth. Everyone who asks receives. God promised us in Luke 11:10 that all who seek Him will find Him. We must pray for our brothers and sisters who face hardship simply for believing in Jesus, for God rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Since 1978, The Tide’s ministry in India has grown to include activities such as literature distribution and Bible correspondence courses. Our ministry also includes a radio distribution project called “Radios for India.” This combination of ministry elements has proven to be extremely effective in changing lives throughout India. In addition, there have been numerous church plants where believers can be nurtured in their faith through and where communities can be drawn into the Kingdom of God.

Currently, The Tide ministry reaches people in seven countries on three continents through radio programming in 24 heart languages. Nearly a quarter of the world’s population lives within the current range of The Tide radio programming. And with nearly 7,000 languages spoken in the world today, the opportunities are tremendous for people to hear about God.
