This May, our Race to Share the Gospel will benefit outreach efforts in Cameroon. Located in west central Africa, Cameroon is a country of over 30 million people with a diverse ethnic, linguistic, and spiritual fabric. Christianity is more prevalent in the southern and western regions, while Islam tends to be concentrated in metropolitan areas and the far north. The ancient practice of witchcraft, or black magic, while technically illegal, remains widespread.
We are active in both the northern and southern regions of Cameroon, with different ministry approaches necessitated by these different contexts.
In the south, where Christianity is more prevalent and where many could be classified as more nominal believers, a more open and direct approach is possible. Here, our team conducts door-to-door evangelism and public distribution of flyers.
However, in the north, due to both extreme hot temperatures and the prevalence of Islam, a more targeted approach is necessary. Nonetheless, Bible sharing, prayers and church services are still being held in open spaces.
As you consider participating in this year’s Race to Share the Gospel, whether in-person in Pennsylvania or virtually, we share a pair of testimonies of a brother and a sister from very different backgrounds in Cameroon.
Sister Akam shares:
I greet you brothers and sisters. I want to say thank you to the Lord for delivering me from the yoke of witchcraft. I inherited magical and fetish practices and others from my parents. Certainly, I always had people who came to preach the gospel to me once in a while, but I had never really taken time to fully understand the importance of what they were saying but for the past six months that I have been listening to Mimtom FM radio 98.3 MHZ. the broadcasting radio programs in my local language, I understood and realized that I was lost in darkness. That was when I decided to meet the pastor for confession and total abandonment of witchcraft practices, so I give thanks to the Lord as I am preparing to go for water baptism in the months ahead.
Brother S. shares:
I am brother S*, a Muslim by birth. While listening to the religious programs and teachings of pastor Timothé at radio CRTV Garoua, I realized that the Islamic religion I used to follow lately was a waste of time and a great destruction and I equally realized that Jesus Christ is the savior of humanity and not Mohamed. Ever since I decided to follow Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and savior, I am being persecuted by my family members daily, so I wish my Christian family will assist me spiritually in prayers in this new challenge.
“And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself” (John 12:32, NLT). The same Lord of Lords is seeking us all, a regardless of our ancestral and spiritual heritage!
