The Tide® Spreading Christianity in India, as Believers There Are Under Attack for Their Faith

While many people in India are converting to Christianity, their new lives in Christ are not without difficulty.

According to a recent report in The Christian Post, new Christians in India endure immense pressure from radicals who beat them for refusing to worship Hindu gods. Open Doors USA has been sharing stories of those persecuted for their faith in India, where converting people to Christianity is illegal in five states.

For nearly four decades, The Tide® global radio ministry has been sharing the Gospel with the people of India through heart language radio broadcasts.

“Our radio ministry in India has grown from a single Hindi language broadcast that began in 1978 to radio programs in eight Indian languages, with plans to include more people groups in the future,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “All these programs are produced in our studio in India using indigenous ministers who can effectively communicate the message of Christ to their own people in the languages they were born to speak.”

The Tide ministry in India has also expanded to include discipleship activities such as literature distribution, Bible correspondence courses, seekers conferences and a radio distribution project called “Radios for India.”  Additionally, The Tide ministry also uses community service activities such as adult literacy training and health clinics to carry the gospel into many villages.  This combination of ministry elements has proven to be extremely effective in changing lives throughout India and planting churches where believers can be nurtured in their faith and through which whole communities can be drawn into the Kingdom of God.

Now, The Tide ministry is embarking on a new initiative to allow Christians to spread the Word of God through its “Every Knee Every Tongue” project, which gives people a chance to proclaim the Gospel message—not just locally, but around the world. Through “Every Knee Every Tongue,” all are welcome to sponsor additional Christian radio broadcasts produced by The Tide ministry in both populated and remote communities around the world. Radio is an incredibly effective way to share God's Word, as every dollar given to The Tide ministry makes it possible for 20 people to hear about Jesus in their own language!

“Although time is ticking,” Shenk added, “it’s never too late to bring people closer to Jesus Christ’s love.”

“Every Knee Every Tongue” is rooted in Romans 14:11: “For the Scriptures say, ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will confess and give praise to God’” (NLT). This key verse raises the question: How will every knee bow and every tongue proclaim praise to God if we don’t share what Jesus has done with others?

Currently, The Tide ministry reaches people in seven countries on three continents through radio programming in 24 heart languages. Nearly a quarter of the world’s population lives within the current range of The Tide radio programming, and with nearly 7,000 languages spoken in the world today, the opportunities are tremendous for people to hear the Word of God.

Later this year, The Tide ministry will offer programming in its 25th heart language—Isaan, spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. That initiative will allow Thailand to join multiple regions of Zimbabwe, India, Nigeria, Nepal, Bhutan, Albania and Kosovo, where The Tide ministry is already active in broadcasting Gospel radio programming.
